The Club Room

at River Terrace

I oversaw the design and project management of an underutilized space in my cooperative, River Terrace. A large common room once dedicated to the Men’s Club from 1967— early 2000s has been reimagined as a gathering space for all cooperators. Whether residents are seeking to unwind, study, get together for a committee meeting, or entertain in style, The Club Room serves as an inspiring extension of our homes— full of memorabilia, history, warmth and elegance.

The Club Room was inspired by the original tenets of the Men’s Club — and private members’ clubs of the past— but modernized to reflect today’s world. Original artwork from cooperators young & old is featured on a beautiful Hague Blue salon wall that spans the length of the room. Framed photographs displaying famed cooperators of the past— including Mayor David N. Dinkins, his wife Joyce Dinkins, police commissioner Robert O. Lowery, community activist and mental health professional Emma L. Bowen, educator and NYS Regent Adelaide Sanford, acclaimed jazz bassist Ron Carter, filmmaker William Greaves, among many others— help to tell the rich, beautiful history of River Terrace and the surrounding Washington Heights and Harlem neighborhoods. The project was featured in NY Magazine’s Curbed section, by Wendy Goodman.
